Groups of Balinese take off in these
motorized outrigger canoes before sunset. I don't know where they go.
This is Jimbaran Bay on the Indian Ocean. You can see the control tower of
Ngurah Rai Airport right of center on the horizon. The runway extends to
the left off the frame.
At the end of the day, shortly before sunset, hundreds of locals flood onto
the beach here at Jimbaran, just to enjoy the beach, play impromptu soccer
games, swim in the surf and so forth. They're all friendly, happy, having
a good time.
The first two evenings the sun disappeared behind clouds before hitting the
horizon, but on the third night I had completely clear view. As the sun sank,
the horizon sliced its disk like a razor. I looked for the
