There's a tourist attraction called
Elephant Safari Park where you can go on an elephant ride, and there's an
elephant bathing pool overlooked by a restaurant where you can sit and watch
the elephants. The elephant ride is about 30 minutes through the surrounding
coutryside, and isn't really too interesting. But the elephants are neat,
and it's fun to be up close to the elephant. This animal is a juvenile female.
There were much bigger elephants.
The park is in the center of the island, and it's a good excuse to take a
ride into the countryside. I enjoyed the scenery on the ride up to the park
as well as the park itself.
Admission is in US$, not rupiah; the only place we went to that didn't quote
prices in Rp. It's owned by an Australian guy. The elephants were brought
in from Sumatra.
