There's a small, sacred forest
sanctuary in the forest with three temples. The sanctuary is populated by
about 125 longtailed macaques. Although popular with tourists, it is an active
holy site, and worshippers bring offerings daily and the temples are used
for ceremonies. Visitors must be respectful. The temples date to the mid-1300's.
The experience is a bit like watching the monkeys at the zoo, except there
are no cages and the monkeys are all around you. At one time I had been sitting
still and a monkey walked right across my lap like I was part of the scenery.
